Cobalt Construction is currently seeking an Estimator to join our Purchasing & Estimating team.  We are seeking a strong team player with exceptional interpersonal skills to find and provide price proposals and budgets for multi-family construction projects for new and existing clients.  The position is based out of Cobalt’s main office in Simi Valley, CA.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions

The Estimator will coordinate with client, subcontractors, and Cobalt’s General Contracting department to ensure the timely and accurate creation of proposals and budgets for new and existing clients.  The position reports to a Senior Estimator.  Essential functions include:

  • Provide proactive and innovative input to upper management
  • Maintain positive relationships with staff, subcontractors and clients
  • Market new clients
  • Provide information as required for Pre-Construction services
  • Maintain and update the general estimating system
  • Maintain and update historic costs
  • Establish project estimates that are time sensitive
  • Perform quantity take-offs
  • Obtain material prices/bids in conjunction with the Purchasing Dept.
  • Produce and present Project Bid Proposals to prospective clients
  • Provide Value Engineering assessments
  • Maintain bid files.
  • Evaluate markets and make recommendations to upper management on trends and         margins.
  • Preliminary budget from “conceptual plans”


The idea candidate for the position should meet or exceed the following qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in the multi-family construction industry preferred;
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills;
  • Competency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; experience with On Screen Takeoff, Prolog Manager, Vico office, and Modelogix preferred, but not required;
  • Ability to perform job tasks accurately and efficiently, with minimal supervision and high level of integrity;
  • Ability to make cost effective decisions, quickly and easily;
  • Have the personality to represent the company positively, with an honest and forthright attitude.


The Estimator position requires a bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field from a four-year university, or equivalent experience.
